Fight over land for Reserve at San Pedro in Seminole County

Commissioners vote against changes to be allowed to land owned by Catholic Diocese

WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. – Seminole County commissioners voted not to allow changes to the development of nearly 500 acres of woods by the Orlando Catholic Diocese.

The diocese is building a new community on an empty tract of land west of Dike Road and north of Howell Branch Road in Casselberry and Winter Springs.

The diocese has approval to develop the property as the Reserve at San Pedro, but Tuesday afternoon, it asked the commission to change some of the housing from "55 and older" community to open for anyone.

Commissioners voted against the amendment that would shrink the retail space and remove the age restriction on half of the housing.

The reserve will be a large Catholic community with two villages, two cellphone towers, 900 houses, one assisted-living facility, retail space and a cemetery.
