Suspects crash, die while fleeing mall shooting in Kissimmee

2 injured in shooting at Plaza del Sol mall

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Police on Wednesday identified the two men who were killed while fleeing a shooting scene at the Plaza del Sol mall in Kissimmee.

Police said Fabrice Buteau, 24, and Walter Jeralds, 21, were found dead at the crash scene on Tuesday evening and were found to be the suspects in the mall shooting.

Police responded to the mall, formerly known as Osceola Square Mall at 3819 West Vine Street in Kissimmee, after a report of two shots being fired that left two people with non-life-threatening injuries.

The two victims in the shooting were identified Wednesday as Lisset Ortiz and Alejandro Laureano.

"She was in dire pain. I mean, she was shaking from shock. She was starting to slowly pass out from the pain. She lost a lot of blood," said Joshua Vega, who witnessed the shooting inside the mall and used his shirt to wrap around the victim's leg to try to stop the bleeding.

Vega said a fight inside the mall got out of hand before one man pulled out a gun and started firing several shots toward shoppers just after 6 p.m.

"After that, they took off. That's when we were just looking to see who was hit, making sure that no children were hit," Vega said.

The shooting happened right as parents were picking up their kids from the martial arts studio inside the mall, according to the police report.

"It's a miracle that the kids didn't get hit," said Luis Claudio.

As officers responded to the scene, they spotted a 2007 four-door Saturn that matched the description of the suspects' vehicle.

When they circled around to attempt to find the vehicle, officers found it crashed near the Publix on Dyer Avenue. Buteau and Jeralds died in the crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A 46-year-old Kissimmee man whose car was struck by the Saturn suffered minor injuries and was taken to Osceola Regional Hospital, the FHP said.
