Empire's 'Strikes Bock' beer in name dispute with Disney's Lucasfilm

Empire Brewing Company received approval to move forward with trademarking

Controversy is brewing in a galaxy or brewery far, far away.

New York-based Empire Brewing Company is trying to trademark a maibock beer called "Strikes Bock," but is meeting resistance from a larger empire.

WTVH reports the brewing company got approval to move forward with trademarking and bottling "Strikes Bock," but Disney's Lucasfilm filed an opposition.

Disney's lawyers are asking the brewery not to use the name, claiming the name is too similar to Lucasfilm's "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back" and would confuse people.

The brewery has 30 days to respond.

Empire is hoping the Force, or at least the National Trademark Trials and Appeals Board, will be with them.
