OPD investigating officer-involved shooting

Police search for man who tried to hit officer with car

ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando police say they are looking for a driver who tried to run over an officer.

Police told Local 6 an officer responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle at Clear Lake Park.

According to police, the officer made contact with a man in his late 40s or early 50s inside a dark-colored Buick.

Police said the officer commanded the driver to put his hands up, but instead the man tried to drive away, almost hitting the officer.

An OPD spokesperson said the officer fired an unknown number of shots at the man's car as he drove away.

Police do not know if the man was injured, but said the officer who opened fire did hit the vehicle.

According to police the man struck the officer's patrol car while fleeing, so damage should be visible on the front bumper of that dark-colored Buick.

Local 6 has a crew on scene and will continue to update this story.
