Man found dead in Orlando yard

Orange County Sheriff's Office launches homicide investigation

ORLANDO, Fla. – A passerby found a man's body in the yard of an Orlando home Monday morning in Orange County, prompting a death investigation.

The body of the man, described by deputies as in his 30s, was found around 7:30 a.m. in the 2200 block of Woods Avenue in Orlando.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office tweeted that the man was a victim of a gunshot wound but later said that the shooting had not yet been confirmed.  The man had trauma to the head and was slain outside the home, deputies said.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death, and whether the man died from gunshot wounds.

Residents told deputies they heard gunshots in the area around 5:30 a.m., but no one called authorities, according to the Sheriff's Office.

"I got up, getting ready for work this morning.  It was about 5:15 (a.m.) and I heard about three gunshots," said resident Mark Sistrunk.  "I just dipped back in the house.  I didn't think there was going to be a dead body out here."

"We always urge people that hear gunshots to call them in," Orange County sheriff's spokeswoman Jane Wattrell said.  "Our deputies will come out and they will check them out."

No suspect information was immediately known, deputies said.
