Jury selection set for Winter Park day care crash suspect

Corchado charged with leaving scene of crash, drug charges

(Orange County Jail)

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The man who deputies say caused a deadly crash at an Orange County day care was back in court on Friday.

Prosecutors were trying to bring in evidence of Robert Corchado's criminal past at his upcoming trial.

Corchado is accused of ramming into another car in April, causing the other driver to slam into the KinderCare Learning Center on Goldenrod Road.

Lily Quintus, 4, died in the crash, and more than a dozen others were injured.

The prosecution team wants Corchado's previous criminal history logged as evidence in his trial. Prosecutors say that Corchado was involved in a hit-and-run in Seminole County in December 2013. In that case, Corchado is accused of hit-and-run with damage to another car and possession of drugs with intent to sell.

The judge said he needs to read more about all of the cases and won't make a ruling until another date.

Corchado faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in injury and death, along with drug charges. Corchado later turned himself in, troopers said. Troopers also said part of Corchado's bumper was found at the scene.

Jury selection for Corchado's trial is set for Dec. 1.
