Oakley Miller, 19, was arrested on Friday and charged with killing his grandfather, Donald Gonnelly.
"I'm very surprised. I mean, in a way it's like a shock," said neighbor Brenda Hunt.
Deputies said Miller originally told them he discovered the body at Gonnelly's home off Frances Ann Court near Mount Dora on Thursday evening.
According to deputies, Miller said he came to the home and found the doors wide open, with the house ransacked and electronics missing.
Deputies later determined Miller was responsible for the homicide of his grandfather.
"It's just that there's something not right with him," said Hunt. "I just always had this feeling inside."
Detectives said they are not discussing the motive for the murder, as the investigation is ongoing.
