Man in critical condition after police car hits motorcycle

FHP: Rider in critical condition

PORT ORANGE, Fla. – A motorcyclist was taken to the hospital Sunday morning in critical condition after he was in a crash involving a Port Orange police officer. 

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, it happened around 12:50 a.m. on Dunlawton Avenue.

FHP said Andrew McIlvain, 39, was driving westbound when he was rear-ended by a Port Orange police car and thrown off his motorcycle.

According to FHP, Silvio Portillo, 27, was the officer behind the wheel.

The cause of the crash is unknown.
