NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – A motorcyclist was killed Thursday when he struck a tree off North Riverside Drive.
Police said 30-year-old Mattheu W. Laurrell was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a palm tree.

The palm tree split in half and Laurell was killed. He was reportedly not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Police continue investigating the crash.
