Orange County deputy opens fire on robbery suspect

1 in custody, 2 additional men sought in robbery, deputies say

One man is in custody on Monday morning after an armed robbery resulted in an Orange County deputy opening fire.

The robbery was reported at the Circle K on Forest City Road just after 10 p.m. Sunday.

Deputies said they were called to investigate a suspicious vehicle and when they arrived, another man came out of the store wearing a mask and carrying a gun.

When they approached the vehicle, a man took off running towards the store. When deputies got closer to the store, that's when they encountered the robber.

The man pointed a gun at the deputies and one deputy fired at the man, but he wasn't hit, according to Orange County Sheriff's Office.

The man, identified as Brandon Long, 25, ran back into the store but eventually surrendered and was arrested. He was not injured.

Investigators said they believe one suspect was in the store and another suspect fled the incident. Detectives also said that the gun was recovered, which had been stolen out of Seminole County, and the suspicious vehicle was stolen out of Volusia County.

The deputy involved in the shooting was identified as Deputy Pablo Santiago, who has been with OCSO since May 2013.

Santiago is assigned to administrative duties for at least a week, deputies said.
