Officials say child taken to hospital with ankle injury

ORLANDO, Fla. – An 8-year-old was struck by a vehicle on Friday afternoon, according to the Orlando Fire Department.

OFD said the accident occurred at Woodgate Boulevard and Pershing Avenue, near Ventura Elementary, just before 3:30 p.m.

The child was transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital with a minor ankle injury, fire officials said.

Orlando Police Department said a black vehicle of an unknown make is of interest in the hit-and-run.

The vehicle was last spotted driving on Goldenrod Road. A detailed vehicle description was not released.

No other details were immediately available.

The accident was the first in two crashes involving children being struck by vehicles on Friday. Hours later, a child was hit by a truck in Orange County and taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
