Scott Rice died in single-vehicle crash, FHP says


EDGEWATER, Fla. – A 29-year-old man was killed Thursday night in Volusia County when his pickup truck slammed into a tree, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The FHP said Scott Rice, of Edgewater, died in the crash, which happened around 6:15 p.m. at Volco Road and Beacon Light Road in Edgewater.

Troopers said Rice was traveling westbound on Volco Road, which is a dirt road, at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his 1990 Ford pickup, which left the road and struck a tree.

Rice, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation.
