Cold-stressed manatee removed from Brevard canal

SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. – Volunteers hauled an ailing, cold-stressed manatee calf and her 1,600-pound mother from a Satellite Beach canal Monday morning.

Both manatees were lifted into a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission truck and transported to Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo for medical treatment, Local 6 news partner Florida Today reported.

It took more than a dozen people to remove the adult sea cow from the Desoto Parkway canal.

This site near the Satellite Beach youth sports fields is a popular wintertime manatee viewing spot.
