ORLANDO, Fla. – A knife-wielding masked man tried to rob a fabric store in Orlando but was chased off by clerks who armed themselves with a curtain rod and a vacuum, deputies said.

The robbery happened Monday night at Home Fabrics and Rugs at 1401 Florida Mall Ave.

Orange County deputies said the man, later identified as Javier Ryes Martinez, 31, entered the store around 7:11 p.m. with a pocket knife and demanded money. Deputies said Martinez chased the clerks through the store.

Deputies said one of the clerks armed herself with a curtain rod and beat Martinez while the other clerk threw a chair and a vacuum.

Martinez fled the store with one of the clerks' cellphones, according to deputies.

Martinez was tracked down on West Sand Lake Road.  He was arrested and taken to the Orange County Jail.
