Missing boy found in Orlando, police say

Kaivarious Washington, 8, ran away from school after being suspended

ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando police have found the 8-year-old boy reported missing on Tuesday.

Kaivarious Washington had last been seen Tuesday in Orlando in the 2800 block of LB McLeod, police said.

"Thank you for doing what you were doing," the 8-year-old told Local 6, thanking deputies and police for finding him after hours of searching.

Kaivarious' mother, Wonkiasha Washington, told Local 6 he jumped out of the car and ran off after being suspended from school for hitting another child.

He told Local 6 he ran away because he was mad at the school.

"He was trying to explain what happened and I told him there was no excuse for his behavior," said Washington. "That's when he jumped out of the car and started running."

He was reunited with his mother after being found at rush hour on a sidewalk at Orange Blossom Trail and Holden Avenue. He was almost two miles away from where he went missing.

Deputies said it was a tip from a woman who saw his picture on the news that led them to the boy. The woman saw him walking and called 911.

"It was the worst four hours that any parent could possibly imagine and I'm just glad he's home," Washington said. "It's a blessing."

The third grader was not injured. His mother said his feet are just sore.
