ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Orange County deputies continue to investigate after a 4-year-old was accidentally shot Wednesday morning.
Deputies said they received the call at 9:32 a.m. and responded to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando.
According to deputies, the child's mother borrowed a vehicle and placed the child in the backseat, not knowing there was a firearm inside the vehicle.
The child saw the gun on the floorboard, grabbed it and the gun discharged, causing a round to pass through his right calf, deputies said.
The shooting occurred in the parking lot in the 5600 block of PGA Boulevard.
The child was in stable condition, according to deputies.
The incident was reported to the Department of Children and Families and DCF said the mother has no prior history.
Deputies said the mother will not be charged at this point, but the investigation is ongoing.
