More than 900 dogs attend Paws in the Park around Lake Eola

Event downtown is biggest fundraiser for Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. – There was a lot of barking around Lake Eola on Saturday, but all for a good cause.

The Paws in the Park Dog Walk and Festival brought more than 900 dogs to downtown Orlando.

It is the biggest fundraiser for Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando, raising more than $200,000 for shelter operations.

A walk led by Mayor Buddy Dyer around Lake Eola was followed by an afternoon full of doggie fun, including obstacle courses and photo opportunities with Disney characters.

"The agility course and the Disney fun area, we want to have our picture taken with Pluto, so we're really excited about it," said Laurie Winger of the Disney Dog Pack. "It's going to be fun."

And there's the Local 6 Dog Pack. Celebrity pet expert Victoria Stilwell was at the festival to give dog-training tips.

"You've got to be a leader, you've got to be a teacher, but you got to do it in a kind way," Stilwell said. "So that's my teaching: positive reinforcement."

The Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando shelters more than 7,000 pets in the community.
