UCF issues alert over Subway robbery

Search near campus fails to find gunman

ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Central Florida is on alert after an armed robbery occurred Sunday night at a Subway restaurant near campus.

The robbery happened near the intersection of University Boulevard and Alafaya Trail, across the street from UCF.

Orange County sheriff's deputies said a UCF student was working alone in the restaurant when a man walked into the store and ordered a drink.  When it was time to pay, the man pulled out a gun and demanded money from the register and the clerk, deputies said.

The gunman then ran off.

A search using a helicopter and K-9 units failed to find the man.

The robbery was captured on surveillance video, but it hasn't been released.

UCF sent an alert to students, informing them of the robbery and search.
