Business booming ahead of Daytona 500

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Fans have already searched for their favorite souvenirs at the Daytona Super Store -- one of the few stores that are open before the start of the Daytona 500.

Some folks browsed the extensive collection and picked out gifts for others.

"(We want) hats, T-shirts, sweatshirts, anything," said Sharon Siaskiewicz.

"(I'm shopping for) my grandsons. I have a 1-year-old and a 1 ½-year-old, and they love sporting stuff," said Laurie Crimini.

Then there are some people who are keeping up with their annual souvenir tradition.

"Shot glasses for the wife," said Jerry Borsberry. "I just started collecting them probably 50 years ago."

The couple said their extensive shot-glass collection is from all over the world and that they never miss the opportunity to pick one up from the Daytona International Speedway. However, the couple only has one shot glass in mind.

"The yearly one with the date," said Jeanette Borsberry.

The Borsberrys aren't alone. The store said its most popular items are the glasses, hats, pens and anything that has Daytona 500 on it. The store also carries drivers' apparel and Daytona Rising Project goodies.

A Daytona Super Store representative said traffic should pick up within the next two days and that they will continue to refill shelves with new merchandise daily.
