Brevard deputies investigate after teen is attacked outside home

SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. – Lockdowns were lifted Thursday at three Satellite Beach schools following an attack that left a 17-year-old injured.

The attack, which was originally reported by deputies as a shooting, occurred around 7:15 a.m. near Glenwood Avenue and Kale Street.

DeLaura Middle, Satellite High and Holland Elementary schools, all of which are less than a mile from the shooting scene, were placed on lockdown, which was lifted around 10 a.m.

Authorities said Daniel Vukovich, 17, was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center after being violently attacked outside of his home while leaving for school. His mother found him in the driveway and called 911.

He is undergoing surgery for his injuries and is currently listed in critical condition, deputies said.

The investigation is ongoing and it's not clear if a shooting, in fact, occurred. Authorities said that the attack was not random and that the victim knew the attacker.
