1 hurt in Merritt Island shooting

Deputies: Shooting considered isolated, possibly drug-related

MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. – One person was seriously injured in a shooting that happened in Merritt Island, according to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.

The shooting happened at 4 p.m. Tuesday on Palmetto Avenue.

The victim suffered a single gunshot wound and was airlifted to Holmes Regional Medical Center. Deputies said the injury is serious, but not considered life-threatening.

It is believed the shooter is known to the victim. The shooting is considered isolated and possibly drug-related, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Witnesses to the shooting were being interviewed and questioned Tuesday evening.
