Line worker electrocuted in Brevard

Man was in bucket at time of death, officials say


MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. – A Florida Power and Light subcontractor was electrocuted Tuesday in Brevard County while working in a bucket truck, according to fire officials.

The man was electrocuted just before 3 p.m. in the 3200 block of South Tropical Trail on Merritt Island, according to Brevard County Fire Rescue.

The worker was replacing electrical poles and was in the bucket of the truck when he was electrocuted, officials said.

When Brevard County Fire Rescue workers arrived at the scene, co-workers had removed the man from the bucket and tried to resuscitate him, fire officials said.

The victim, who has yet to be identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tropical Trail was blocked in both directions.

No other details were immediately released.
