Woman arrested on murder charge after body found in Brevard shed

Jennifer Rose Trent held on no bond

BAREFOOT BAY, Fla. – A 36-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday in the death of a 70-year-old woman whose body was found in a shed in Barefoot Bay.

Jennifer Rose Trent, of Barefoot Bay, was arrested on first-degree premeditated murder charges in the death of Doris Johnston.  Trent is being held in the Brevard County Jail on no bond.

According to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office, Johnston was found dead in January after family members from out of state contacted authorities because they were unable to contact her.  Deputies found Johnston's body in a shed behind a Barefoot Bay home.

According to the Brevard County medical examiner, Trent knocked Johnston unconscious and placed her in the shed, where Johnston survived for several days before being suffocated.

Investigators believe that the motive in the slaying was a scheme devised by Trent to get Johnston's money and home.

Officials said Trent made $15,000 in unauthorized purchases on Johnston's credit cards.  Trent also was found to be in in possession of Johnston's credit cards and had created forged letters, which potentially could have given her access to Johnston's financial accounts and home, officials said.
