3 teens arrested in Titusville slaying

Trio intended to rob man buying drugs, police say

TITUSVILLE, Fla. – Three teens, including a 15-year-old boy, were arrested Thursday in the shooting death of a man who was found dead in a vehicle in Titusville.

Jeremiah Jermain Trice, 19; Jiris Kelly, 18; and Tyreik Jaru Smith, 15, all of Titusville, were arrested on charges of murder in the death of 24-year-old Matthew Hagerty.

The Titusville Police Department said it received a 911 call at 2:25 p.m. Wednesday about a suspicious vehicle parked in an open lot next to a vacant house in the 1100 block of Mockingbird Lane.  Officers found Hagerty dead inside his vehicle, police said.

Surveillance video from a nearby apartment complex captured three people running from the scene and search warrants provided evidence in the case, police said.

Titusville police said a preliminary investigation showed that Hagerty met with the suspects to buy drugs.  The teens had the intent of robbing Hagerty, who was shot twice and died at the scene, police said.
