ORLANDO, Fla. – A boy was struck by a vehicle that tried to stop in Orlando, police said.
The crash happened just after 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the area of South Ivey Lane and West Cypress Street.
A teenager was leaving his parents home and going to another relative's home. Police said the teen had two smaller children with him and was helping them cross Ivey Lane.
While crossing, the teen and one of the smaller children saw a vehicle coming and stopped.
Orlando police said the other smaller child, a boy, did not see the car and broke free of the teen.
The driver of the vehicle noticed the boy and made significant efforts to avoid striking him, but was unable to stop in time, according to Orlando police. The boy was struck at a very low speed.
The boy suffered an abrasion behind the ear and was taken to a hospital for evaluation, police said.
The boy was not seriously hurt and is expected to be OK, according to Orlando police.
