ORLANDO, Fla. – People in an Orlando neighborhood are fighting to keep a park from going into the hands of developers.

The controversy surrounds the park known as Constitution Green in the Thorton Park neighborhood of downtown Orlando.

The park is an undeveloped block of land along South Street at Summerlin Avenue that includes an oak tree that is said to be nearly 200 years old.

The city has been leasing the land from a family for years, but a developer now wants to buy it.

More than 3,500 people have signed an online petition to try and stop that sale, saying they want the city to buy the land instead.

Supporters are also planning a rally at the park for next Saturday.
