Decapitated chickens found outside cemetery in Santeria act, deputies say

Cops: Suspicious incident occurring at cemeteries across US


MICANOPY, Fla. – Marion County deputies are investigating a possible Santeria act after three decapitated chickens were found at the entrance of a cemetery.

Deputies said three chickens, two red and one black, were found outside of the Evinston Center Pointe Cemetery on Saturday morning.

Also in front of the cemetery were three pennies, a handful of corn, two plastic bags and a brown bag containing chicken organs, a powdery substance, leaves and the hair from the chickens, according to the report.

Deputies said the suspicious incident is occurring at cemeteries across the United States and it is believed to be a sacrifice to those who follow Santeria.

Residents said they hadn't seen anything suspicious in the area.
