Police say woman found heavily intoxicated, lying in grassy field next to apartment

WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. – A Seminole County woman was arrested on child neglect charges after Winter Springs police say she was intoxicated and left her child home alone.

Ramona Petty was charged with cruelty toward child/child abuse and resisting an officer in the Sunday night incident.

Police said they were responding to a call of a missing child when then found a male juvenile in the area of State Road 434 and Sheoah Boulevard, nearly a mile from his home.

The boy told police he was "trying to find help for his mommy, and that she fell down and her eyes were red," according to the report.

When officers arrived at the boy's home, Petty was found next to her apartment building in a grassy field lying face up on her back with her daughter yelling her name, police said.

According to the report, Petty was heavily intoxicated and told police she had "a couple drinks."

Police said as Petty was being arrested, she tried to pull away from officers and intentionally dropped to the floor and fell face first into the concrete sidewalk and hit her face.

She was booked into Seminole County jail.
