THE VILLAGES, Fla. – A Central Florida area has been named the nation's fastest-growing metro area.

According to new numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau, The Villages in Lake County's population grew by nearly 5.5 percent between July 2013 and July 2014.

Florida also has six of the country's top 20 fastest-growing areas. Making that list were the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford area, Cape Coral, Naples, Sarasota and Panama City.

According to the Census data, the fastest-growing county in Florida was Sumter County, whose population rose 5.4 percent from 2013-2014.

Osceola County also rounded out the top five counties with 3.6 percent.

Orange County added more than any other county in the state with 26,237 people, according to officials.
