People at Iron Horse Salon noticed boy walking toward traffic

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Witnesses tried to save a 3-year-old boy who was struck by a car in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The incident happened around 6:35 p.m. Friday at U.S. 1 and State Road 5.

Sally Noel, 31, was traveling north on U.S. 1 in her 2000 Mercury. Troopers said Cayden Main, 3, was being watched by his grandmother at a nearby home.

Cayden's grandmother was working in the yard and the toddler wandered toward U.S. 1.

Several people at the Iron Horse Salon on U.S. 1 noticed the boy walking toward traffic. Troopers said they ran into the road to stop traffic and rescue the boy.

Noel was unable to come to a complete stop and the front of her car struck Cayden, knocking him down. FHP said he was taken to Halifax Medical Center as a precaution with minor injuries.

The crash and incident remain under investigation, troopers said.
