Bob Cross told Local 6 he was contacted by the residents after two young girls were playing in their backyard, and one of the girls stepped within a foot of the snake.

The venomous snake would have inflicted a serious, possibly fatal bite to a person, Cross said.

Cross urges people to be careful where they put their hands and feet when trimming bushes, spreading mulch or weeding.
