The crash happened on Airport Boulevard near Old Lake Mary Road.  Wicklow Elementary School is located in the area.

Florida Highway Patrol said a vehicle was traveling northbound on Airport Boulevard and the guard, identified as Albert Mike, 70, of Sanford, was in the crosswalk, crossing Airport Boulevard from the west side of the road.

Witnesses said the vehicle, a GMC pickup truck, had a red light as it drove through the crosswalk and struck Mike, knocking him to the ground.

The guard was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in serious but stable condition, officials said.

Troopers said the crash remains under investigation and charges are pending against the driver of the truck.

Other crossing guards told Local 6 that they didn't see the crash, but they heard it.  The pickup truck had a dent above its left front headlight.

Northbound lanes of Airport Boulevard were closed in the area.
