400-pound bear raids Florida family's chocolate supply

Woman takes photo of 400-pound bear leaving home

ESTERO, Fla. – A woman in south Florida says she was surprised when a noise in her kitchen turned out to be a black bear.

Caroline Tidwell says she when she realized the 400-pound bear was in her home she originally feared it was eating her cats.

It turned out, however, that the bear has a sweet tooth.  Tidwell says she found the bear eating the family's Easter chocolate supply.

Tidwell ran to wake up her husband and then quickly snapped a photo of the bear.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says bear sightings are typical this time of year.  In spring, bears are hungry and will eat whatever they can get their paws on.
