Dad arrested after infant appeared malnourished, had drugs in system, cops say

Osceola County deputies say 3-month-old weighed 7 pounds

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – An Osceola County father was arrested after deputies say an infant was taken to a hospital in critical condition and tested positive for prescription drugs.

Keath Smith faces aggravated child abuse charges and child neglect charges in his Tuesday arrest.

Deputies said Smith brought the 3-month-old to Florida Hospital on Tuesday afternoon after he found the infant unresponsive.

According to Osceola County Sheriff's Office, the infant appeared malnourished and weighed seven pounds. The infant is currently in critical but stable condition.

Smith left the hospital after finding out the Department of Children and Families and Sheriff's Office were investigating.

Detectives said they found materials consistent with manufacturing methamphetamine at his Kissimmee home.

Smith was arrested and booked into the Osceola County Jail with additional charges pending.
