FWC issues alert over dime-sized turtles

Freshwater turtles are currently hatching

It's teeny tiny turtle season!

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is warning Floridians about freshwater turtles as they hatch from their eggs.

The FWC sent out a warning on their Facebook page about these turtles, even including a photo of a turtle that is smaller than a dime.

They say to be mindful of turtles as they hatch and make their way out into the world and urge drivers to be safe but help them cross the road if need be.

When turtles hatch they are so small that it can be difficult to determine what species they are because their shells have not developed.
