Metal detectors back at Universal Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. – Metal detectors are back at Universal Orlando parks next to the rides on Thursday afternoon.

The metal detectors were in front of "The Incredible Hulk Roller Coaster" at Islands of Adventure. Last month, the metal detectors were in front of the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit at Universal Studios.

The detectors were added to some rides to keep phones, cameras, selfie sticks and more from flying off coasters and hurting people.

Some people protested on social media, complaining they felt like they were being treated like criminals and that the tests were making lines longer.

"This is about the safety of our guests and is helping us to enhance our approach to keeping loose items off our  roller coasters ...," a park spokesman told Local 6. "We are going to continue to test and refine the process behind how we are doing this."
