For the past few weeks, and months, the Department of Transportation has been warning drivers around Orlando, that the I-4 Ultimate Project will begin shortly.  Come this Sunday night, drivers can expect to see construction for the first time.

"This is it," said Jennifer Horton, with FDOT. "Come this Sunday, drivers will get a first glimpse of what's to come."

The closures will start Sunday night on the eastbound lanes of I-4 starting at West Kennedy Avenue and extending East of Maitland. Construction will begin at 9:30 p.m., and wrap by 7 a.m., with closures shutting down at least one lane between Sunday and Friday.

"We'll be doing this over night," Horton explains. "Hopefully, it won't interfere with people's commute."

Twenty miles of concrete barriers will be placed in the construction zones beginning Sunday. Martin Neiswander is the co-founder for Seminole Precast Manufacturing Inc, the company contracted to build the barrier walls, he says they've been preparing for months.

"We started this back in October," Neiswander said. "We will roll out twenty miles of barriers now, and then 19 miles more later."

The I-4 Ultimate Project is projected to take 6 and a half years for completion.  With road work beginning shortly, FDOT asks drivers be safe, and lookout for workers.

"We ask that people be aware," Horton said. "If you see some barricades, slow down."
