Exotic Driving Experience at Disney to remain closed

Driving instructor died when customer crashed Lamborghini

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The Exotic Driving Experience at Walt Disney World Speedway, where a fatal accident occurred earlier this month, will remain closed because of an ongoing investigation.

Petty Holdings said Wednesday that the attraction will not reopen before Disney permanently closes its track in August to make improvements to its parking lot.

"Exotic Driving Experience in Orlando will remain closed as we work with the Florida Highway Patrol regarding the ongoing investigation," Petty Holdings said.  "Richard Petty Driving Experience will remain open in Orlando until Aug. 9.  We will be operating the Exotic Driving Experience at the following locations this year:  Kansas, Charlotte, MSR – Houston, Atlanta and Texas."

After the crash, Petty Holdings had said that the Exotic Driving Experience would reopen May 1.

The Exotic Driving Experience allows people to get behind the wheel of high-performance luxury cars and drive around the track at high speeds.  The Richard Petty Driving Experience allows drivers to race in NASCAR cars.

Gary Terry, a senior operations manager, attraction driving instructor and passenger in the car, died in an April 12 crash, according to the FHP.  A Lamborghini driven by a customer was traveling 100 mph at the time of the wreck, troopers said.  The driver suffered minor injuries.
