Dozens of guns stolen in smash-and-grab at Palm Bay pawn shop

Culprits shatter front door to gain entry

PALM BAY, Fla. – Dozens of guns were stolen early Tuesday in a burglary at a Palm Bay pawn shop, police said.

Thirty-six guns were stolen in the burglary, which occurred around 4 a.m. at a pawn shop at 3200 Northeast Dixie Highway near U.S. Highway 1.

According to Palm Bay police, several culprits entered the store and stole handguns and several long guns.  Police said the front door of the shop was shattered and the interior security door was breached.

"We're not worried about the loss.  We're worried about getting the (guns) back out of the wrong hands," said the pawn shop owner's brother, Richard Alexander.

Detectives said surveillance cameras captured the burglary on video.

An investigation is ongoing.
