Dr. Phillips Elementary School principal 'relieved of duty'
Superintendent: Daniel Merchant no longer with elementary school
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – An Orange County Public Schools representative confirmed Thursday that the principal of Dr. Phillips Elementary School is on "relief duty and unassigned at this time."
Parents received an automated call from Superintendent Harold Border notifying them that Daniel Merchant is no longer at the school.
The reason for Merchant's dismissal is unclear, but Merchant and his former assistant principal were involved in a scandal earlier this school year where an inappropriate text was sent out about teachers.
