Dump truck overturns on SR 429 in Apopka

BMW with mechanical issues struck by truck, FHP says

APOPKA, Fla. – A dump truck overturned Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Apopka, forcing officials to close State Road 429.

Northbound lanes of S.R. 429 were closed near County Road 437A because of the crash.  Traffic was diverted off S.R. 429 at West Road before being reopened.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the dump truck and a BMW that was having mechanical issues were traveling north when the dump truck driver swerved to avoid the slow-moving car.

As the truck swerved, its load of dirt shifted, causing the dump truck to overturn and hit the BMW, troopers said.

The driver of the BWM and a passenger in the dump truck were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, the FHP said.

Dirt dumped onto the roadway, which prompted the road closure, the FHP said.
