Hotel security guard stole jewelry from guest, deputies say

Cops: Man stole $15,000 worth of jewelry at Buena Vista Palace Resort

ORLANDO, Fla. – A security guard at a resort near Downtown Disney was arrested for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars' worth of jewelry from a guest's hotel room.

Claudy Morilus, 23, faces grand theft charges after he stole $15,000 worth at Buena Vista Palace Resort, deputies said.

According to the arrest affidavit, a woman staying at the hotel reported two diamond rings and a gold bracelet missing from the safe in her room.

The woman initially had trouble figuring out how to use the safe and called security for help. It was the 23-year-old who gave her a new code to get the lock to work, but once he left the room, she forgot to reset it.

After reviewing surveillance cameras and a service order log showing which keys were used to access the woman's room, Morilus was questioned. He never admitted to stealing, but deputies said they had enough evidence to arrest him.

The hotel wouldn't say whether or not he had been fired or whether they are investigating any more thefts.
