COCOA, Fla. – From solar cookers to solar-powered model cars, students showed off their inventions at "Energy Whiz" in Cocoa.
The 13th annual "Energy Whiz" competition promotes solar and renewable energy, bringing together over 1,000 students, teachers and parents.
The "Fido Feeder" was designed by Isabel, Noah, and Justin in their environmental science class at Howard Middle School.
"There was a lot of trial and error of what to do on it, but in the end, it worked," Isabel said.
The dog house uses the sun's rays to power a battery that pumps out food and water.
"The Land Boat" helps fisherman store bait and cook their fresh catch and was designed by a group of south Florida teens.
"This is where the future is -- the jobs are going to be in the energy field and these students have to have these skills, and this helps," said Susan Schleith, education coordinator for Florida Solar Energy Center.
