Crews search Lake Monroe for missing boater

Clifford Grooms' boat found Tuesday

SANFORD, Fla. – It's an emotional waiting game for friends and family of missing fisherman 65-year-old Clifford Grooms after they say he never returned home from Lake Monroe Monday night.

"The truck had been here all night, because the dew was on the windows and I feel the boat around and it was dry," said Tiny Davis, Grooms' girlfriend.

Davis said Grooms has been a fisherman for 30 years and would take her daughter on fishing trips.

"They were inseparable fishing buddies. She lived to go fishing with Mr. Clifford," Davis said.

The dive team has been circling near the Interstate 4 overpass since 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, searching for any sign of Grooms, as family stood by hugging and praying.

"My prayer is that he'll be found safe and healthy and whatever the outcome, we'll keep it alive. There's always hope," said Alvin Davis, Tiny Davis' brother.

"I wish he would just say, 'Hey, I'm over here. I'm just hung up here, I'm right here,'" Tiny Davis said.

Florida Fish and Wildlife has not released any information on the search at this time.
