1 dead, 1 hurt in attempted murder-suicide in DeLeon Springs, deputies say

Deputies identify elderly couple in incident

DeLEON SPRINGS, Fla. – Deputies have identified a man who is dead and a woman who was seriously hurt after an attempted murder-suicide that happened in DeLeon Springs.

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office arrived at a home on Willow Avenue after Loren Warman, 84, called emergency services Tuesday evening claiming to have shot his wife, 81-year-old Iva Warman.

"I have just killed my wife. I'm going to kill myself," Loren Warman said.

Loren Warman gave his address and then a gunshot was heard in the background. Deputies said the call went silent.

Deputies arrived at the home minutes later to find the elderly couple down in the yard.

Loren Warman was pronounced dead at the scene with a firearm by his side, deputies said.

Iva Warman was still breathing and was immediately rushed to the hospital. She remained in critical condition Wednesday at Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach.

Iva Warman, who is in a declining mental state, might have contributed to the murder-suicide attempt, authorities said.

No one else was at the home when the shooting took place.
