Authorities use bait car to snag burglary suspect

ROCKLEDGE, Fla. – Authorities in Brevard County arrested a man who they believe is responsible for dozens of car burglaries in the Rockledge and Cocoa area.

Local 6 was there Wednesday afternoon when Rockledge police arrested Te Darius Juitt, 24, at his Cocoa apartment.

Detectives believe Juitt is responsible for nearly 30 car break-ins - to locked vehicles - in the cities of Rockledge and Cocoa over the last few weeks.

"They're doing what they're supposed to do," said Lt. Donna Seyferth with the Rockledge Police Department. "They secured their vehicles and that's what we asked them to do and he is still breaking in and stealing everything anyway."

In the last three weeks, police believe Juitt broke into cars at Publix on Murrell Road, Planet Fitness on U.S. 1, Weusthoff Medical Center on Longwood Avenue and Lee Wenner Park in Cocoa.

Detectives said he took anything from loose change to sunglasses, but the items he allegedly took weren't nearly as expensive as the damage he caused.

Juitt used some sort of tool to break into the door handles to bust out the locks, according to police.

"It causes hundreds of dollars in damage and people now have to call their insurance companies and it causes issues with re-securing the vehicle," said Seyferth.

Over the last few days, police say tips started to come in pointing to Juitt as the guy responsible.

Wednesday morning, detectives set him up using a bait car at a business nearby and watched his every move. Ultimately, detective caught him in the act of breaking in.

"They were ultimately able to catch up to him, take him down and make an arrest," said Seyferth.

Juitt is now in the process of being booked into the Brevard County Jail. Police say they also found a gun and drugs in his car.
