Lifeguard stand burned, torn apart in Brevard County

Police search for those responsible

MELBOURNE BEACH, Fla. – Investigators in Brevard County are searching for whoever used a lifeguard tower as part of their bonfire.

Brevard Ocean Rescue said it is happened at Spessard Holland Beach Park in Melbourne Beach over the weekend or possibly Monday night.

When they found the tower Tuesday afternoon it was burnt and torn apart with beer cans all around it.

Ocean Rescue Chief Jeff Scabarozi said his lifeguards build the stands by hand in the winter and they cost around $750 to make.

"We leave the towers out on the beach," said Scabarozi. "We don't have a lot of traffic out there, so individuals at night damage them and that's what seems to have happened."

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.
