Woman, infant struck by hit-run driver in Orange County, FHP says

FHP: Woman pushing infant in stroller struck by vehicle

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Troopers are searching for the female driver who took off after striking a 59-year-old woman and an infant in Orange County with her vehicle.

It happened at 2 p.m. Thursday at Coletta Drive and Colonial Drive.

The driver was traveling south on Coletta Drive in a vehicle described as a white minivan.

Charlene Sandio, 59, was pushing 8-month-old Ramir Sandio in a stroller, crossing Colonial Drive from the south side of the road to the north side but not at a crosswalk, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The driver made a right turn to travel west on Colonial Drive. As the vehicle turned right, the left front of the vehicle struck the pair, troopers said.

FHP said the driver then left the scene.

Ramir Sandio was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children with minor injuries, troopers said. Charlene Sandio suffered minor injuries, but was not taken to a hospital.

Troopers said the crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
