SANFORD, Fla. – Authorities have recovered the body of a missing fisherman who was sought after his boat was found earlier this week in Lake Monroe near the Seminole County line, Volusia County deputies said.

The search for Clifford Grooms, 65, began Tuesday after family members and friends said he did not return home from Lake Monroe Monday night.

Tiny Davis, Grooms' girlfriend, said Grooms has been a fisherman for 30 years and would take her daughter on fishing trips.

"They were inseparable fishing buddies. She lived to go fishing with Mr. Clifford," Davis said.

A dive team had been circling near the Interstate 4 overpass since 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, searching for signs of Grooms.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said Saturday authorities have recovered a body believed to be that of the missing fisherman.

Seminole County sheriff's deputies found Grooms' body shortly before 1 p.m. Saturday, authorities said. Grooms was underneath the westbound Interstate 4 bridge, near a pillar on the Volusia side of the county line, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

A Volusia dive team was requested and recovered Grooms' body around 4 p.m. Saturday. Deputies said no foul play is suspected.

The medical examiner's office arrived to the scene and will conduct an autopsy, which is scheduled for Monday morning, deputies said.
