Troopers said the three were traveling west on Ocklawaha Drive in a 1998 GMC SUV.

For an unknown reason, the driver lost control of the SUV. Troopers said the vehicle left the roadway onto the north shoulder, overcorrected and traveled off onto the south shoulder, where the right side of the SUV struck a tree.

The SUV then overturned. Troopers said all three people involved were not wearing seat belts.

Fredrick Crawford, 21, and Michael Chavis, 25, were ejected from the SUV, the Highway Patrol said. They were taken to local hospitals with serious injuries.

The third passenger, a 25-year-old woman who was not identified, was partially ejected from the back window, according to Highway Patrol. She was pronounced dead by a medical examiner.

Troopers said charges are pending, and the crash remains under investigation as to whether Crawford or Chavis was driving the SUV.
